For the third time in four months, thieves have used a motor vehicle to gain entry to a retail jewellery store in the early hours of the morning.
On Wednesday, March 19 th 2008 at approximately 4:00am thieves drove a stolen 2007 Ford F350 through the front window of a retail jewellery store at 5008 50 th Street in Stony Plain , Alberta . The RCMP responded to the stores intrusion alarm and found the vehicle, the smashed front window and an undisclosed amount of merchandise missing. A short time later, RCMP responded to a call regarding another truck in a ditch at 50 th and Highway 16A. There they found jewellery boxes, jewellery and tools in the truck. This vehicle had also been stolen from behind a Stony Plain Hotel. A dog team was brought in and led Police to a location in a Stony Plain subdivision where they found evidence of a break-in, but no suspects. At 6:30am this same morning, another vehicle, a 1988 Chev Silverado was reported stolen from the same subdivision. ( The Edmonton Journal , Thursday, March 20, 2008 edition.)
On March 6 th 2008 at 4:40am , a motor vehicle was driven through the front windows of a retail jewellery store at 5120 50 th Street in Barrhead , Alberta . ( The Barrhead Leader , Tuesday, March 11 th edition)
On December 3 rd 2007 thieves used a vehicle to drive through a 10 foot section of a frame wall on the side of a building in Spruce Grove , Alberta . Once the wall was breached, the thieves entered the building and smashed several display cases, taking diamond rings, gold chains and high end watches.( The Stony Plain Reporter , December 7 th 2007 edition.)
