On January 3 rd , 2007 at approximately 1:00am, thieves broke into an empty shop next to an independent retail jewellery store at the corner of Steeles Avenue and Middlefield Road in Scarborough . They then broke through an adjoining wall and without ever entering the jewellery store, cut through the wall of a two metre tall safe, which had a wall made of a quarter inch of steel, four inches of reinforced concrete and another four inches of steel. The store's alarm system did not activate and the security surveillance cameras did not reveal any information.
